First outdoor addition

At some point we're planning to tear down our old, rickety deck and build a nice new bigger one, but while we save for that we figured we could at least make a few improvements to make our outdoor space more presentable. Our first purchase was, as usual, unplanned, but we're very excited about it. We'd been looking for a few months online for some new deck lights, since our old ones look like this:

Bluuughk. At least I made this photo B&W so you don't have to see the hideous color of our basement floor.

Since we weren't having much luck finding reasonably priced fixtures online, we were in Lowe's picking up some paint and figured we'd check again, even though the last time we did there was nothing. We were thrilled to find the perfect lights to fit our taste, and they were only $24.99 each!

If you don't know us, we're into the galvanized bucket look, hence the centerpieces at our wedding:

More fun posts about our wedding to come....but this was one of many DIY elements that made it so wonderful and so "us." We bought these buckets for $1 each at Target in the dollar bins in the front of the store. More on these later.....

When we got home from Lowe's and happily installed our new deck lights, we happened to flip through the new Shades of Light catalog and lo and behold...!

Wow! $98 lights for $24.99! We were thrilled. Our back yard looks better already!
