Six month anniversary!

Yeah, yeah it was a couple months ago, but we just got the blog going so forgive us. We had a very fun celebration and want to share it with you in case you're on a tight budget but also enjoy a good beer drinking evening like us!

One of our favorite restaurants is Eli Cannon's Tap Room in Middletown, CT, which is conveniently (and sometimes temptingly) now about 3 minutes from where we bought our house. The great thing about Eli's is that they always have about 20+ beers on tap and they write them all on chalkboards which can be found all over the restaurant. They're always changing them so every time we go we get to try something new. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is very young and eclectic with a New Orleans feel. As fun of a place as it is, we can't afford to go out much, so I surprised David with an "Eli's night in" for our 6 month wedding anniversary!

I went to a couple local package stores and picked up about 12 random beers (costing about 1/3 what it would have to buy 2 each at Eli's). One of our favorite meals there is the Philly cheese steaks, so I planned those for dinner. I tried to make it as authentic as possible so I used a pinterest tip from the Idea Room (link here) and stopped by the local hardware store to pick up non-sanded grout to make chalkboard paint (we already had black paint). I ripped a piece of cardboard from a box in the recycling pile, mixed my grout and black paint and painted myself a chalkboard! Of course, because this is how it goes for me...I needed two coats and they didn't both dry in time, so I just wrote all the beer choices on paper and hung it on the corkboard in the kitchen for when David got home. He was thrilled at the idea and we will definitely have to make this a tradition. It was nice enough outside for some appetizers and our first beers on the deck, and we made the philly cheese steaks together and enjoyed all the variety of beers, sharing them all and making notes about which ones we liked (or didn't) and why (which is necessary because after 12 beers, you need notes to remember which ones were the best!)

Fortunately the cardboard chalkboard I whipped up was dry after dinner, so we decided to make ourselves a party invitation with it for two parties we're planning this summer.....
